Change installments

You may need to change installment information for a bill if, for example, you will pay a bill in less installments, you will pay the installments on a date different from the original date, or the amount of each installment changes.

To change installment information, open the Bills screen, and then click the row for the bill you want to change.

Change number of installments

To change the number of installments for the bill, update the # of Installments field.

Notes

  • You can change the number of installments for a bill when you do one of the following.
  • You can add more installments to a bill only by increasing the number of installments.
  • You can change the number of installments only before you apply the first payment. Once you apply the first payment, the # of Installments field is disabled.
  • Every time you change the number of installments, the application equally divides the bill amount between the installments, changing any installment amounts you previously entered.

Change due dates of installments

To change the due date of installments, change the date in the Due Date field.

If you change the due date of the first installment without payment, the application changes the due date of the other installments so that all installments are still due one month from the date of the first installment.

Notes

  • You can change an installment due date only if you have not applied a payment to the installment.
  • The due date must be after the date of the bill.
  • An installment due date must be after the previous installment due date, but before the next installment due date.

Change amounts due for installments

To change the amounts due for installments, edit the values in the Amount Due field.

Notes

  • You can change an installment amount due only if you have not applied a payment to the installment.
  • If you decrease the amount due for an installment, the application increases the amount due for the other unpaid installments in equal amounts based on the total decrease of the amount due for the installment you changed.
  • If you increase the amount due for an installment, the application decreases the amount due for the other unpaid installments in equal amounts based on the total increase of the amount due for the installment you changed.
  • If you set an installment amount due to the same value of the bill balance due, the application deletes all of the other open installments, which changes the number of installments for the bill.
  • The application will not accept a new amount due for an installment if the new amount plus the sum of the other installment amounts due and the sum of payments already applied to the bill becomes greater than the total amount of the bill.
